Leadership Crash Course

Historically, people spent many years in an organization (or at least an industry) rising through the ranks–honing and adjusting their skill set as the rose. With Boomer retirements, a relatively small GenX talent pool to replace retiring senior leaders, increasingly organizations are facing the reality of having to promote leaders in their late 20s and 30s into senior positions.  This comes with many struggles and challenges. In the words of an HR Director who called me earlier this week: “We have found ourselves promoting some highly talented and skilled managers, beyond their level of experience.”  This article, Crash Course in Leadership provides a valuable perspective on the critical skills for newly promoted senior leaders (not just CEOs), especially for those in their late 20s and early 30s.

What do you think of these 5 pearls of wisdom? What would you add?
